i'm not too sure about how you see Teyvat with mermaids but listen. what if mermaid!reader who finds greater appeal in developing erudition than drowning humans for fun? (unfortunate in it's own way if alhaitham happened to be the one time they tried to do so)

like do mermaids have magic like the witches on the surface?? alchemists??? mermaid!reader being either of the above but being really good at what they do. so imagine all the unknowns of the surface and alhaitham being the one opening they have to explore it

i'm loving this idea that reader and alhaitham engage in a battle of wits all the time (or annoying each other) and that's a huge part of their dynamic.

(also as a side note. would something like mermaid scales be worth a lot on the surface? the lore seems to suggest that intelligent beings aligned with an element are often physically imbued with a lot of elemental energy? possibly sells good for alchemy, magic, medicine, etc depending on how you see it? just a food for thought :) )

okay so in the mermaid au, I hc that most mermaids are of the classic drowning/luring humans to death kind. I mentioned offhandedly in pt2 that some were interested in the human world though! and of course each mermaid would have their own opinions on humans, which can change depending on their own experiences. ex: the current mermaid!reader and whatever they've got going on atm is mostly due to alhthm having soundproof earpieces + the fact that he knows their kind-of-forgotten (to humans) language. I'd say mermaid!reader would also have to have at least a little innate curiosity and interest to the human world in order to agree to the deal. ugh I kind of wish I made this series into full fics so I could've expanded on this more (๑′̥̥̥▵‵̥̥̥ ૂ๑) but if not for the circumstances, mermaid!reader would've been more like the one in this ask

I did think about a sea witch, but it was irrelevant to the current storyline so... LOL anyways. it wasn't going to be like a ursula-type sea witch but more along the lines of hexenzirkel/lisa/signora. since their tails become legs when completely dry, it's very possible to go on land to study human alchemy and stuff, but otherwise they don't have any special magic other than their very alluring siren song. oh! but they are immune to hydro, like hydro slimes (but hotter) ₍ᐢ. ̫.ᐢ₎

this isn't set in stone for this au but, mermaids originate from the dark sea (ik it isn't actually a sea, but it's technically anywhere outside the rule of The Seven, so let's just assume there are also oceans). they're an ancient race that existed alongside the seelie, and after witnessing the destruction of the entire race because of the one human/seelie marriage, that's when they started drowning humans just in case. and then it just continued on for forever.

ok I've been thinking about this next part a lot haha. yes! their scales can be used in alchemy (another reason to drown humans ig lmao) but since mermaid scales are rare and hard to come by as it is + they haven't been seen in so long, most modern alchemists just don't know about it. also I wanted to incorporate irl lore from some folktales that say mermaids grant wishes. so some humans believe that based on old legends but I haven't decided yet if they actually can or what the criteria would be if they could.

honestly i have half a mind to make a spinoff(?) series afterwards maybe that has more plot and lore and angst, since rn I'm currently just building their relationship(??) but I'm glad you enjoy their dynamic because I love writing banter, it's one of the easiest things for me to write !

When you awoke, your chest was thickly wrapped with layers of bandages, "Ah, ah, ah, don't try to get up yet, dear" a voice so familiar echoes from behind you, you saw Baizhu at the doorframe smiling at you.

"Uhh, I got shot right?" You said, you were confused by Ganyu's sudden actions, and trust me, so did everyone else. "Correct" he said.

"I'm glad I don't have to heal your little wounded ankle like last time, but this time is a bit more serious, don't you think?" Baizhu said, approaching you before he sat on the foot of the bed. "Like.. last time?" You said, your mind was confused... what did he mean by last time?

tl;dr: biggest hype is for the potentially unsettling nature of sumeru's story + hopefully more lore!

half a second into the trailer: irminsul tree mention !!!!! i am DEEPLY in love with how eerie this is all set up, with very wholesome commentary placed over very unsettling imagery/music. i hope that's the exact vibe we're getting in sumeru generally - i feel like mond had an upbeat vibe and kept it through the whole mond story, liyue had an elegant but historical vibe, inazuma was troubled but up front about it in the way it was presented...i'm legit hoping we're gonna get a 'there is no war in ba sing se' feeling through sumeru

i'm intrigued by the sages "finding" the newly born dendro archon and what that might entail lore-wise - i'm inclined to mistrust, based on what we've seen so far, but if that gives us more lore about how archons are chosen/decided/etc that could be very interesting too

i'm already a big fan of the environments they've showcased, they feel unique and hopefully will manifest that way in-game. i'm also hyped for the new charas - collei has a special place in my heart lmao but tighnari and dori both look cute as well. ultimatley i'm more hyped for cyno, dehya, and alhaitham as characters but i'm patient :) lmao

i am VERY intrigued by the prospect of the akasha terminal both from a lore perspective and worldbuilding perspective. i suspect it has some nefarious intentions and implications and i am VERY hyped to see it in action >:}

me, screaming quietly at "mark my words, our god shall return" (idk who exactly said it in the trailer but i am 👀👀 greater lord rukkhadevata perhaps??)

honestly what's intriguing me most so far is the glitchy effects...i was really caught off guard by them during the end of the inazuma archon quests post-signora fight, so to see that again....i am hype for possible implications there lmao

and!!! i'm very intrigued by the concept behind the withering and the implications of it being caused by something below the earth. my brain is spinning with possible theories lmaoooo

i'm also already a bit more than just a bit suspicious of the akademiya specifically cause they seem to be devout followers of rukkhadevata - are they possibly the ones suggesting that "their god shall return"? or refusing to recognize the authority of kusanali? also thrilled to see that rukkhadevata was a woman, if the rumors/lore abt the tsaritsa being in love with the prev dendro archon are true lmao

i'm really pleased to hear the devs say that they feel that this is a new stage in the journey, both for them and for us - i'm hoping this will start to really crack open some of the big lore questions and speculations that've only been hinted at in the past

i've mostly steered clear of how all the new reactions work not out of any disinterest but bc i think i'll understand better by seeing it in action and working on it myself lmao but i think it'll be interesting for sure

the subject of the little forest spirits is actually pretty interesting? it reminds me a bit of the koroks in botw, i'm interested to see how they function in the environment of sumeru and the story itself

unrelated to the events but it bears mentioning: i absolutely ADORE the efforts of the set designers??? like, they don't have to go that hard in building out the sets for the program but it's very wholesome and adorable that they do and i am very appreciative of the efforts involved

OH i am also hyped for the addition of so many artifacts to the mystic offering list!! now i can speedrun blizzard strayer and viridescent disappointment :) lmao

Notable things about Capo!Reader's appearance includes:

Wearing mostly prussian blue, includes their coat. Their collar seems to have at least 1 or 2 unbuttoned (unless they're in church in which case they're Prim And Proper ™️). Their color scheme is in contrast to La Signora's, so mostly prussian blue and black. Khaenri'ahns and their blue color schemes lmao–

Their favorite coat is blue on the outside, and probably grey/black when inverted on the inside. Reverse Dainsleif cape i guess.

Always has a holster by their hips.

Oftentimes wear a black top hat that Tartaglia bullies them for but they're apparently "a fashion trend in Khaenri'ah" no one in Teyvat knows about lol

Rosalyne gave them black laced opera gloves similar to hers when she recruited them, although after they became a Capo they no longer wear it (kinda awkward to do wear your victim's gift right?)
